Man Critically Injured In Southern State Parkway Crash Involving Drunk Driver, Police Say

A man was hospitalized in critical condition after a two-car crash involving a drunk driver on the Southern State Parkway on Saturday night, May 4, state police said.

The crash occurred just before 9 p.m. on the westbound side at Exit 41N, in Islip. 

Preliminary investigation revealed that a 2017 Honda Accord with two occupants and a 2011 Toyota Prius, also with two occupants, collided in the right lane, state police said.

The collision caused the Honda to overturn and slide on its roof before coming to a stop in the left lane, while the Toyota made a controlled stop on the right shoulder of the parkway., according to police.

The operator of the Honda, George C. Farley, 63, of Centerport, was transported to Southside Hospital for non-life threatening injuries and displayed signs of alcohol impairment. His passenger, Robert Dobbins, 68, of West Babylon, was severely injured and transported to Southside Hospital where he remains in critical condition. 

The driver of the Toyota was treated for non-life threatening injuries and was released. His passenger did not sustain any injuries and was released from the scene.

Farley was charged with driving while intoxicated and is awaiting arraignment at Suffolk County First District Court.
